This project is a documentation of where our journeys overlap to form an academic exchange or shared pilgrimage. We wanted to visualize education as a journey to reference and celebrate both our common, shared experiences and the variety and richness that our differences bring to this community in Canterbury and a collaborative project such as this one.

The final design of the mural is a combination of graphic design elements (such as block colours and typography) and some more expressive illustrative line work and detailing. It reiterates the notion of a parallel journey and experience by showing both versions of the image. The angles, perspectives, and shadowing work to add some depth to the overall piece and, again, refer to the richness and complexities of the community that is created when such a diverse group of people come together in this way.

The mural itself is installed in a communal café space within Rochester House on New Dover Road. It is a building used by University for the Creative Arts, and therefore seemed appropriate for both our project theme and to provide relatable content for a captive and focused audience. The building itself is corporate and clean, and the proposal was to introduce some colour, design and inspiration to better align with the building’s current purpose and occupation.
